Tetra Sodium Phosphate is an inorganic sodium salt comprised of a diphosphate(4-) anion and four sodium(1+) cations. More commonly known as tetrasodium pyrophosphate, it finds much use in the food industry as an emulsifier and in dental hygiene as a calcium-chelating salt. It has a role as a food emulsifier, a chelator and a food thickening agent. It contains a diphosphate(4-). 

Tetra Sodium Diphosphate agents are molecules having a high affinity for calcium, like citrate, phosphate salts (disodium orthophosphate, tetrasodium pyrophosphate and other sodium polyphosphates) or EDTA. They decrease the calcium activity and, except disodium orthophosphate, induce the solubilization of MCP in the soluble phase of milk and the dissociation of the casein micelle because of the increased repulsions between caseins. The viscosity of milk increases.

Tetra Sodium Pyro Phosphate - Pure grade is an inorganic, white, water-soluble solid. It has the formula of Na₄P₂O₇. It is developed by reacting sodium carbonate and furnace-grade phosphoric acid to develop disodium phosphate that is then heated to 450 degree centigrade. It is composed of sodium ions and pyrophosphate anion. It is wieldy used as a buffering agent, a thickening agent, an emulsifier, a dispersing agent, etc. In addition to this, it is also used as a food additive. It is used as a palatability enhancer in varied foods such as pudding, crab meat, chicken nuggets, marshmallows, canned tuna, cat foods, etc.

Tetrasodium pyrophosphate (or TSPP) is being used in detergents,  as cleaning agents, ceramics, paints and metal surface treatment. It’s an additive for cosmetic and pharmaceutical preparations , pH control and buffering, dispersing agent and emulsion stabilizer.

Sodium Pyrophosphate s used in water softener, detergent, emulsifying agent, metal cleaner and nutritional supplement. It acts as a buffering agent, thickening agent and dispersing agent. It also acts as a tartar control agent in toothpaste and dental floss. In addition, it is used as a chelating agent in antimicrobial studies.
